Songbird

The sun rises and first light pierces the still black sky,
Stars retreat, the moon fades as it whispers good-bye

Drinking the dew of what morning brings,
Opening their eyes the songbird begins to sing

One by one they take their place
In line to welcome another days grace

Yet there was one who refused to sing,
To take her place among the songbirds who sing,
She stood behind, with shoulders hung, not knowing yet which song should be sung,

Did she forget, did she not know that all were waiting to hear her bellow,
The notes of joy, notes of strife, her notes that brought sweetness to life

As the grasses swayed to the soft morning breeze,
Flowers stretched to show their majesty and time was passing all to quickly,
Will that songbird fill the sky?

Suddenly with brave resolve that little songbird burst forth with song,
Oh how sweet it was to hear all that songbird held so dear!

Now the day can begin, bring forth its grace,
Learning from the songbirds place, let all who have a song to sing not hide it, BUT SING!
