As an older writer on Wattpad, I have some recommendations for you to get some actual readers:
1. You should post chapters 1-5 altogether to give readers a head start on reading. 1-2 chapters isn’t enough to give readers a good impression of a story. It’s also not enough for them to read.
2. Get rid of all the bios— many readers just want the MAIN story and not all the bios. The bios should just be for you. However, if you want to do a brief bio chapter for all characters with their full name/nickname, birthdate, something unique about them, and a picture, that’s fine.
3. Posting regularly after that— at least 1-2 times a week or even three if your schedule allows that.
4. Note— since Wattpad has millions of stories, it’s going to take a while even with consistent updates. But slow, consistent growth is better than quick and sporadic growth. Trust me— I know what I’m talking about!
5. If you have any social media, post content and links to your Wattpad profile and story.
6. Engage with the Community— look at Reddit or book clubs like Astania or the Dreamland Community for potential readers. Make sure you read, vote AND comment on stories you like in your genre (don’t just do R4R/V4V— read because you like the book or the writer)
7. Don’t self promote yourself on someone else’s page or in their books. It’s disrespectful. I keep having to tell people that and they won’t listen or they even mute/block me even if it’s just me offering advice.
(Anyway, those should help you get started)
