I grew up in a small to mid-sized town in the Southwest... Phoenix, Arizona; and watched it evolve into one of America's largest metropolitan cities.
From farmlands to record-setting urban sprawl, I worked many years as a Construction Tradesman in Plastering, Plumbing, Concrete, Drywall, Framing, Laying Tile, etc.; and in many other areas pertaining to the building trades in my hometown of Phoenix.
I have had a chronic love of the arts since I can remember... I started drawing in gradeschool. Music was always a big part of my world growing up; church, school choirs, etc.
But I started "serious writing" in 6th & 7th grade in the '60s and continued through high school, mixed with Football, Track, Wrestling and various other athletic endeavors. Although I was real sporty and athletic; a muscly guy who loved Football as much as the next kid... In many ways I was pressured into the "macho" lifestyle. However my heart always remained with writing.
And although I continued to play sports with the guys: Lift Weights, and start Construction Crews with my brothers (and loved every minute of it); I secretly would write ballads of Life, Love, God and Reality. Ballads that welled up from deep in my heart... And I continue to do so to this day. Writing for my own enjoyment, I kept at it and have never stopped as I grew older.
I am now in my mid-60s and have raised some wonderful kids. And through the years of work and life... Love and tears.... That inside yearning to put pen to paper and release the locked up treasures of feeling & thoughts... Daydreams & whims... And put them into poetic verse... Only seems to burn hotter as I enter my sunset years.
I know in other's eyes, this desire might seem like a curse... But it has always been my secret comfort and joy throughout the years... And long after the sports, the weight-lifting, the Construction Work and the hard labor has worn down this tired old body... The unlocked treasures of my heart remain and continue to flow.
