“Oh, please—” she drawled, her tone dripping with playful arrogance, “I’m the best thing that’s graced these woods in years. You really want me to leave and take that away?”
A slow, knowing smile tugged at her lips as she tilted her head, eyes glinting with provocation.
“Face it, lover… you want me here.” A beat passed, her voice lowering, more dangerous now. “Badly.”
Katherine lingered beneath his gaze, basking in it as though it were something tangible—something she could drink in. Attention had always been her vice, an insatiable craving she never quite managed to starve. And from him? It was intoxicating. He looked as though he had been sculpted by something divine, every line too deliberate, too perfect to belong to anything mortal.
Before she could second-guess herself, the mischievous blonde closed the distance between them. It was a bold move—reckless, even—but restraint had never been her strength. Tilting her chin upward, she met his height with quiet defiance, a smirk curling across her crimson lips.
“I think you like my games,” she murmured, voice soft but edged with intent. “Besides… I’m sure it gets lonely out here, all by yourself.” Her gaze flickered, searching, testing. “I could fix that.”
It was all deliberate—every word, every step, every glance. A carefully spun lure of temptation meant to draw him in, to wrap tight and unseen.
He hated it. Hated her.
And she knew.
That was what made it so irresistible.
Because despite the venom that lingered between them, despite the way their very presence seemed to spark something volatile and dangerous, Katherine found herself unable to stay away.
As if whatever bound them ran deeper than hatred—
and far more dangerous.
