With novella season upon, I want to recommend a fantastic one that I had the pleasure of finishing this week ‘A Bartender’s Guide to Paying it Forward’. If you’re unfamiliar with @MarCafeWrites ’ story, it follows Tate, a bartender at The Imp’s Bottle who doesn’t generally open up due to his social anxiety, but one night a woman comes into the bar on the eve of her departure overseas, and he connects with her in a way he never has before. That encounter leads to changes in him and how he approaches the cast of interesting and unique characters that frequent this quirky bar. It’s a great contemporary tale with a few hints of the paranormal that explores how one encounter can lead to growth, self-acceptance, and positive change. I love how it’s able to do this without leaning into the traditional romance structure, but it is still very much driven by connection. It's a very memorable, unique, and wonderful read that I highly recommend.

Very excited to share that 'Complete Without You' was chosen as a contemporary literature favourite in the Ambys (and made it onto the ONC Hits: 2021-2022 list too)! 
          
          This story will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first book I wrote with an asexual protagonist (and is set in a part of Australia I adored). After stressing I'd get the representation wrong for a good year, I went for it and still laugh at myself for thinking that it was easier to write from an allosexual that I've never experienced instead of the asexual one I live. It set me on a journey of learning, self-love, and connecting with many wonderful people.
          
          Thank you enormously to the ambassadors who host events like the Ambys and ONC to help celebrate writers and make the process so much more engaging and fun. Congratulations to the many talented authors who also have their stories featured on the favourites list.

Recommendation: If you enjoy a cozy fantasy romance with a great premise and world-building, check out ‘Penned Sea Hearts’ by @dragonthusiast . Ramos, a librarian dealing with funding cuts, must work with famous steamy romance writer, Phish Seaman (Kai), to raise money to save the beloved underwater library. It has great grumpy-sunshine vibes, portrays a sweet, healthy, and healing relationship, and has well-done ace rep. Plus the underwater world is so fun to explore. It was also a winner in the Aro-Ace awards! It’s complete and novella, so it’s a perfect cozy binge read to make you smile and fall in love with the characters :)

Recommendation: I’ve adored reading #FreakshowFriday and can’t recommend it enough. This captivating sequel to the Watty award-winning #WitchcraftWednesday, has convinced me that not only is AJ ( @bigfivedonaldduckfan ) a master of the paranormal travel genre, but it’s a genre I need more of in my life (I’m excited for that 3rd book!!). 
          
          Nathan and Jamie take off to Venice for a sure-to-be tense trip with her family. Despite the drama that went down on her paranormal YouTube channel, Jamie wants redemption by exploring and documenting her finds on the haunted island of Poveglia, a former plague quarantine and psychiatric hospital site. The story offers both a peek into a lesser-known, part of Venice, heart-racing spooky encounters, as well as a sweet healing romance for two characters who have been through a lot both together and on their own.
