@bjpatt I suspected as much. I know a few people who spent some time growing up In Japan because of military parents. I imagine even if it doesn't overtly come in, the skills you developed growing up in another country comes out somehow. Very interesting. 
          	
          	I spent about 12 years in the Air Force, and so military history is close to my heart. I do intend on using what I learn in my writing. I self published a fantasy novella that has a lot of medieval style combat, and that was before I started this program. So I'm looking forward to this adding a certain level of "reality" to my fantasy writing.
          	
          	Best of luck! My leisure reading time is scarce during class, but I try to make up for it in between seminars. The next break is in August, so I'll be looking forward to your vampire stories!

@WLinde Thanks.  I went to high school in Japan for a few years b/c my step dad is in the military.  Back then the culture influenced a lot of my writing.  And it still does for any fantasy stories I write.  But, currently I've been doing urban fantasy with vampires and such, and that Japanese background has come into play much.  At least not consciously.  
          
          How about you?  Do you use your knowledge of military history in your writing?
