“ no — yeah , i’m fine . just something in my eye . ” he sniffed and cleared his throat , wiping the tears running down his cheeks . vienna came into the room unexpectedly , and steve didn’t want her to catch him being so vulnerable . he was never one to open up about his emotions to people , he only did that with bucky .
@SUPERSOLDIER- : : vienna rubbed his back , listening to his words with her full attention . she felt her heart break at seeing steve all sad , knowing a smile fit his face more . as he finished talking , she thought for a moment before speaking herself . “but you saved some , correct ? you should be proud that you were able to save some of those people , but i know that you wished you could’ve helped more . . you did everything you could , okay ? it’s not your fault , it’s that man’s fault for deciding to do it in the first place .” vienna explained , her leg bouncing a bit . “but those people you saved , i bet they’re so proud of you . like i am , like we all are . you’ve never been a disappointment , not for a single second .”

steve dips his head down to vienna’s shoulder with a small sniffle , a frown slapped over his face . “ just . . . give me a second . ” he sighs , fear washing over him of not being able to control his tears if he started to speak about what had made him break down . though with small hesitation , he finally released the kraken , let all that troubles him become known . “ so . . . do you remember that mission i went on recently ? when that man took those innocent people hostage , i couldn’t save them all before the place blew . and i just feel so guilty . . . they had families , friends , and i couldn’t save them . i . . . i feel like a huge disappointment . i feel like i could’ve done something else about it . ” steve mostly let his sorrows break loose in private , so it wasn’t a surprise that he was keeping it all in as vienna listened . he was good at masking his true feelings when people were around him .
@SUPERSOLDIER- : : vienna sighed as she walked over , sitting next to him on the bed . “mhm , and the world is flat,” she joked in an attempt to cheer him up , but stopped . “if you don’t wanna talk about it , that’s okay , i’ll just sit here with you until you feel better .”
