I think I'm getting a little tired of people telling me how much better the world was in the 40s, 50s, 60s, etc. Like, I'm sorry, 17-year-old kid in the comments section of The Platters - Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, were you there? At least today you don't have to worry about your brother, boyfriend, husband, son, etc., being sent off to war, getting polio and having like three outfits in your closet. The thing about society is that it DOES improve with time. You'll realize how great the 2010's were in a couple of decades and you'll probably wish you would have taken more time to appreciate it. At any time you can order anything you want off of Amazon, listen to any song with a couple mouse clicks, and have much, much wider dietary options, which is especially good if you have animal product allergies or celiac disease, which would have been pretty difficult to deal with 50+ years ago because eggs and milk were a huge part of the standard American diet (and still are) and nobody knew what the neck rice flour was. Our society overall has a much better understanding of the environment, health, and science. And, obviously, the post-war era wasn't super fun for anybody who was not a straight white male, and even straight white makes were expected to be strong, masculine, and have a steady job. People these days are living in a pretty amazing era, so please don't waste time wishing you were alive back then and enjoy when you are living right now, or you'll regret it.

And just to clarify, I don't think it's necessarily wrong to admire history. I love history, and learning about the culture of the past. But I see and hear a lot of negativity about this generation and how life was better, people were more respectful, and society was less corrupt in the "glory days" of the post-war era.
