Previously on Freak Accident:
          
          “You said you used your powers? Did he see?" She nodded her head. "Delta is another word for River, which can mean water. Maybe that's why he called you Delta?" She nodded in understanding. She let out a yawn, water appeared in the corner of her eyes. "It's time for bed Delta." I laughed, hearing her pout from a mile away. We both laughed and decided to call it a night.
               Making my way upstairs, I heard her door click and soon after, mine did as well. Yawning myself, I quickly change into PJs and crawl into bed. Hopefully, sleep comes quickly tonight. My heart was warm for the first time in a very long time. Things were changing, I wasn't sure if it was for the better yet. It was clearly undecided. But as undecided as it was, I liked it so far.””

              ““It's that guy from the News!" Opening my eyes, hands no longer on me. Two men already lay on the ground. Leaving only two left standing. Meeting the gaze of the masked man. Recognizing him from earlier, on 'Chicago News'. They exchanged fists, never once laying a hit on the masked man. A wave of confidence filled me, as I began to concentrate again. The blue hue masking my own eyes, the puddle beside me lifted. Like a giant wave, I swung my arm towards one of the pursuers. Knocking him against the nearby wall. Shit, that's definitely new. Jumping, seeing the Masked man take down the last man. Meeting his gaze again, he turned and started to run away.
               "Hey! Wait! At least let me thank you!" I yelled. Seeing him stop, his head turning so I could only see part of his face in the dimly lit alleyway.
               "Phantom. Call me Phantom. See ya Delta." Then he disappeared into the night. “”

               “”H-hello?” Hearing my phone ring, I pick up, still staring at the door and my almost frozen toes.
               “Hey it’s Jake, it’s an emergency, you need to head to South Shore.” Hearing the panic in his voice, I began to not only worry for myself, but for Tracey.
               “What happened?! Is she okay?” There was a long pause.
               “She appears okay, but the floating and the eyes glowing have me worried. It’s best you don’t ask any more questions, just hurry.” Hanging up the phone and ignoring the frozen door. I quickly got dressed and ran out of the house. Feeling like the ice was trailing behind me, I ran faster. Running into the car, slamming it behind me. This day can’t get any worse.”

               “”The blackness turned red.. My heart slowing. Everything stood still. That's when I could see the ground below me, and it started to get strangely smaller. Panic rose as if I was floating on air. The pain becoming a dull ache. I dropped my gun, and I began to look for something to grab on. Reaching over to grab on to the metal gate, only for it to burn through my fingertips. Growing with anxiety, I began to shake.
               “Tracey?!” Hearing Jacob behind me, I turn around. “Holy shit..”
               “What’s happening? Get me down, don't just stand there!” Seeing his wide eyes. I quickly turn away. Feeling the wind beneath my hair, watching as the ground became closer. Faster and faster I fell. But then, it was black””

               ““We’ll be in touch, Spencer.” Watching as he left, I began to bounce my leg, out of habit to keep warm. Tracey started to wave the waitress over but, she waved her hand back. Signifying the meal had already been paid for. Smiling at the small act of kindness, we gathered our things.
               “Alyssa, I might be home late tonight.” Opening the front door, holding it out to
          me. I gently tugged my hair behind my ear, placing my hands in my pockets.
                  “I assumed you would be.” Shrugging my shoulders, I take the keys to our small car from her. While she drove away in her cop car. I get in the car and turn up the heat full blast. Rubbing my arms and legs to circulate blood flow, I make my way home.””

          ““I’m sorry! My god.. Are you alright? Did you burn yourself cooking earlier?” I began to shake from the cold unable to answer. Putting my hand down, ignoring her question. I surely don't remember burning myself earlier.
          “What’s up with that guy? Spencer was it?” I asked, curious about the man who had no injuries. 
          “He was found in the bathtub.. it looks like an attempted suicide.” I watched as they took him away in an ambulance. “There was a toaster with him, in the tub.” I grew quite. Holding my burn close to my chest, my expression darkening. 
          “Is that what caused the explosion?”
          “I honestly don’t know Alyssa..””

          “ With a shock in my chest, I jolt awake, feeling the burning in my chest. Realizing it’s just my phone that has awoken me. Checking the time 3:43am. 
                “Nickels.” I say calmly.
                “Detective Nickles, you’ll want to come in for this.” My heart began to race. As the burning in my chest began to corrupt me. It became worse as the time on the phone went on. It became a sharp pain. 
                “What is it?” masking the pain I was feeling, the tense atmosphere grew. I could hear his breath over the phone. The sirens buzzing in my ears. 
                “There’s been an accident.””

           “"AHHHHHHRGGH!" A scream I heard. I felt the need to run away. My heart was beating so fast. I dared myself to get closer, to find the source. I started towards the scream I heard. I came out of the fog.. Reaching the clearing of the fog, it's as if  a new world opened up to me. I saw green lights and a soft blue blurred my vision. I tried to focus my sight. Failing, I turn towards a figure I could see. It was shaped like a person it seemed but, I was unsure. It appeared like it was my height. The figure slowly moved their head up towards me and all I could really see was its eyes. Bright yellow struck me like a thousand needles. Pain. Pain was all I could feel. But not a sound was heard. As silence became peace. Peace was reality, or so it seemed.“
