Alright. As an AO3/Tumblr writer this needs to be addressed.
Wattpad writers, if you’re gonna move to AO3, there’s some etiquette that you need to know.
1. USE TAGS APPROPRIATELY. That is how people will find your work. Make sure you get the fandom right, so for example it will be something like this “Wild (Linked Universe)” not just “Wild”
2. If you’re gonna write there, write full on novels, like with the same amount of craft you would use in a college essay. We don’t want little half hearted paragraphs and typos, we want vocabulary and art. <500 words only applies to small oneshots and maybe even cr*ckfixs. If it’s none of those things, you’re going to have to write a lot. This is not to make it challenging or impossible, it’s just how it works.
3. Kudus is not enough. You can’t kudus every chapter of a book, so here’s what you do: kudus, and COMMENT. Here’s what a good comment should look like
*explain what you enjoyed about the plot/theories*
*give examples from text and analyze*
*Tell them great work*
Any less than that is not good enough. They pour their heart in these books for FREE.
4. Never, NEVER steal someone’s idea/au without permission. Here’s what I mean by this. If someone headcannons wild to have much worse scarring than he already has, and I mean MUCH worse, then you must make it KNOWN to them you will write about it. There’s very little gate keeping, but in return you must TELL THEM you’re using the hc, give credit, and make sure they allow it.
