“Morning, Y/N!” a stagehand called out, his voice cutting through the din. “You managed to beat the sunrise again!”
“Terrifying,” another voice chimed in. “Do you even sleep? Ever?”
Y/N smiled — not the brittle, haunted smile they wore in the early months following the ritual, but a carefully cultivated curve of lips that served its purpose.
“Sleep is a luxury in production,” they quipped, deftly sidestepping a rolling crate loaded with LED panels, the clatter of wheels catching the attention of nearby crew members.
In that moment, they weren’t lying. But they certainly weren’t revealing the whole truth either. Sleep meant dreams, and dreams meant remembering. And remembering meant him.
