It really isn't "just a story" when it reflects real-world lesbiphobic/homophobic ideas about lesbians, and sexist ideas about women.

Again, lesbians get told that their sexuality is just a phase and they just need the "right man" to make them straight. Him, shipping his characters with canon lesbians, reinforces that harmful idea. Also, the creators of the show had to imply juleka and rose's romantic relationship, due to censorship concerns. The same thing goes for The Owl House, which was cancelled due to the show containing a sapphic relationship (Lumity - Luz x Amity)

Furthermore, women are often reduced to their bodies, and "just needing a man" Cosmin stripping Juleka of all her defining characteristics is an example of that harmful trope/idea being played out.

You wouldn't try to justify the whitewashing of black characters through the guise of it being "just fiction" or "a story," right? Exactly. You wouldn't. Same thing goes for characters with disabilities. You would go and make that character able-bodied and claim that it's okay because it's "just an AU" or "just a story" or whatever weak excuse to justify your bigotry. You'd still, intentionally or not, be trying to say the character is "better" that way because you got rid of one of their "flaws." The same thing goes for sexuality. He is treating Juleka's canon sexuality as a hurdle for his male oc to overcome.

I understand that cultural differences/views on the LGBTQ community exist, but when you're on the global internet, you've ought to educate yourself on the discrimination these people face—and how fanfiction that erases characters canon sexualities mirrors that discrimination.

If you try and use the excuse that "but gay people do it to straight characters" please understand that straight people have more than enough representation, and gay people get very little.

So, yeah, people have every right to complain.
