they didn't exchange a word, because they both knew words were feeble when compared to every touch and every look they did exchange.
the caress of a thumb on a cheekbone, the softness of hair between fingers, the heat of breath against an eye, the brush of a nose against another, all these little tokens that she and he cherished in the dark of night. the bat of an eyelash against a cheek.
surrounded by the calming presence of each other, bodies swaying slowly from side to side only to the synchronized beat of their hearts. the quiet embrace a remedy to the loudness of their troubles.
he put his chin on her head, she put her head against his chest. stress and nightmares flew away, disappearing a bit more with every breath they took when they were close.
they didn't smile as this was not a happy dance, but they didn't cry as this was not a sad dance either. they only loved, as this was nothing but a dance, and they only dance, as they had nothing to give but love in that moment.
they danced until they run out of breath, until the moon didn't shine on their faces anymore and until they could only see with their hearts. only then did their lips touch, ever so lightly, barely a graze, but it sent an electric wave all through them, making their hairs still.
dancing, they had felt like the world had stopped for a moment, like if just for an instant, it was just them and nothing else. now, they felt like the world was starting again, like the sun above was warming the tip of their fingers, like the air around them was making their hair flow, like the earth under their feet was holding them steady, like water was streaming through their veins and giving them life again. they were each other's end and each other's beginning, an unspoken promise of two souls in the night.
he misses the days the feelings were mutual
