Today is Colgate Day which is significant because Colgate is the greatest university in the world on and off the ice! As you can see, Colgate means a lot to me since even before I started professional writing and today, we celebrate Colgate University for all of its greatness. We are twelve hours away from puck drop at Riggs Rink but we have a memory to share before the teams meet for the first time this season! Our final memory of the week will be December 2,2023 and this one was another in the long line of classics between these two teams! The two teams split the scoring in the first two periods setting up a crucial period number three as we were tied 2-2 after forty minutes! Colgate used two unanswered goals to defeat Cornell 4-2 at ruckus Lynah Rink that night! Go Raiders and see you for late night commentary on the Route 13 Rivalry!

Today’s memory brings us back to December of 2024 at the Class Of 1965 Arena as Colgate and Cornell wrap up the first half of the season here in this game. Andrew Takacs and Ian Shane both gave up a goal in the first period making our score 1-1 after twenty minutes and this big crowd was anticipating a Cornell win. The Raiders would get goals from Nic Belpedio and Brett Merner to make it 3-2 Raiders after forty minutes of ice hockey this evening! Cornell would tie the game early in the third period but Colgate used that as motivation to score three unanswered goals to defeat Cornell 6-3 at Riggs Rink! Go Raiders!

This world Cancer Day, we honor and remember those who won the fight against cancer by either defeating this terrible disease or sadly, passed away from the side effects of cancer. Cancer affects billions of lives worldwide and it’s a horrible thing to go through at any age in life! Cancer is one of those diseases that there’s no rebounding from it because you’re either stuck with PTSD afterwords or you ultimately die from the poison they pump into you!

For example, when you have leukemia, you get the tar beaten out of you and you’re tested every day just to stay sane during treatment. The thing that’s important to know is that you’re stronger than anything that the doctors throw your way both physically and mentally! Cancer is a disease from hell that we wish was cured and never had to hear the words, “your kid has cancer” ever again!

Alas, people with cancer are mentally strong as they fight the most dangerous disease known to man. Cancer is a disease that unites families and causes people to suffer both mentally and physically of horrific side effects and mental health issues that will last a lifetime! May we never have to hear the words “your child has cancer” again!

And now, the continuation of a memory we shared yesterday! So, it’s game three between Colgate and Cornell as they battle for the right to head to Lake Placid after today’s game! It would be Colgate who jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the middle of the third period but Cornell would cut the lead in half making it 2-1 Raiders late in the third period but it was a 36 save performance by Mitch Benson that won the day as Colgate would wind up winning 2-1 to win the series 2 games to one!

We bring you to Lynah Rink in Ithaca where Colgate is playing a best of three weekend series against their CNY foe, the Cornell Big Red in this memorable matchup. Matt Verboon led off the weekend by scoring a power play goal but Cornell would use three unanswered goals to beat Colgate 3-1 in game one! It would be the Hamiltonians who would get the next laugh however as four different goal scorers would lead the Raiders past Cornell to even the series at a game a piece heading into Sunday! To be continued…

The first memory we are sharing this rivalry weekend is February 8,2014 when the Cornell Big Red came to town. Colgate scored 4 unanswered goals after leading 2-1 early in the third period. Spiro Goulakos picked up a hat trick in a single period as Colgate pulled away from the people from Ithaca 6-1 on the back of Charlie Finn picking up a massive rivalry win! See you tomorrow for more Colgate-Cornell memories! Go Raiders!
