To everyone that is hating on Peter you forget that while he was Griffindor, being scared and feeling tiny were part of his personality. Can you imagine being approached by the second most powerful person in the world and not being able to find a way out? Peter betrayed them out of fear. He redeems himself in the slightest way when his silver hand chokes him to death. He hesitates in carrying out the Dark Lord's plan and the hand senses that. Voldemort knew that he would betray him eventually so he made the hand special in a way to prevent him from doing it. Peter is the type of person to latch onto the most powerful and looked up to person around. He didn't have James's money, Sirius's good looks or Remus's smarts. He was just Peter. He was brave in the way he was able to betray his friends, face the Dark Lord, hesitate in doing the Dark Lord's will, and acknowledging that he did it only out of fear. He knew what his fear was, the problem is he didn't know how to face it.
