To justify me being here (cuz I feel like my presence here is nonexistent), I guess I'll go on a mini tangent/rant about power scaling.
I don't understand the prep time argument when it comes to character debates. Like the argument basically boils down to "if you gave time for a character to prepare, they can be prepared for the situation ahead." There's a lot of problems with this statement, like, how long is "prep time?" Is it 5 minutes? 10? An hour? An eon? What exactly are they preparing for? Are the odds are in their favor?
People like to cite different characters (ex. Batman and Rick) as powerful characters for having prep time. Now, characters can have impressive feats, but this arguement is very flawed. I can understand where people who this arguement are coming from, given that preparation can be utilized greatly in a fight. The problem here is the fact that the argument again boils down to "being prepared for anything." Now, not only will that make a character basically a mary sue, but... how exactly can one prepare for anything?
By this logic, characters should always win because of their ability to prepare in fights, even though there are many factors suggesting the contrary. Power scaling itself - to me anyway - is already a tough ground to work with, but with debaters who pull cards like this and the inevitable OC Fallacy of "My ChArAcTeR cAn SoLo YoUr FaVoRiTe VeRsE," I kinda tend to stay away from debating heavily about character scaling because of it (that and, admittedly, I used to be one of these people who would use said OC Fallacy.)
Not to say power scalers are bad; I'm sure there are great people who love talking about how their favorite characters and fandoms and pinning them up Death Battle style to see how it'll go in a fight. But it's with fallacies like these that kind of make it a problem for me.
