I can see where you are coming from with them following the "old ways" and them wanting to protect their daughter from heartbreak but they aren't exactly going about it the best way (in my opinion). It says somewhere that they chased away her two exes and that they both broke her heart. That's not exactly protecting her from heartbreak. In addition, what if he was a horrible person, if not in public then in private? Like what if he was secretly a murderer or something (I think she made this point when she was freaking out). Also, I find it strange that they follow the "old ways" when they are living in the 21st century but it's our book and you can make the characters however you want. I like your book and how it's going, I meant no offense, I was just saying that to me her parents seem a bit crazy.
