The girl was a vegetarian. With hesitation and a soft voice, she asked the officers for something without meat to eat.
          	The woman in the black chador, without a moment’s pause and with a biting tone, gave her a mocking look and said,
          	"If you’re hungry, go eat the grass from the garden!"
          	A sentence that hurt more than hunger itself — a display of power, of imposed ideology, an insult that went beyond mere words, a calculated act of humiliation.
          	With that remark, they meant to break her, to make her feel worthless, to mock her choice as foolish.
          	Or perhaps what they really wanted to say was that she had no rights at all — that she should be content with whatever little was forced upon her.      #Roots in chains
