"No," he cut me off, voice low, a little rough, "don't. Don't lie. I saw the texts. I saw you laughing."
I stared at him, heart thudding, caught somewhere between amusement and guilt. "It's my cousin, Darien. That's all."
But he wasn't listening. His storm side, dark and jagged, flickered in his eyes. He stepped closer, almost threatening, almost protective, almost dangerous.
"Stay still," he murmured, reaching out and brushing a strand of hair from my face. His fingers lingered at my cheek, warm, deliberate. "You can't just—" His words faltered, his voice roughening.
I swallowed, caught between fear and desire, watching as the storm side I'd glimpsed before surfaced again—just a hint of the dark intensity that made my chest ache...
