Finally the day when goddess descends from the heaven is here. It's finally the day of MAHALAYA.
          
          The atmosphere is filled with sounds of crackers and the songs of goddess Durga. She was created by the powers of all devas, the epitome of power, Goddess Durga. The protector of this earth is finally here. 
          
          But very few people know why this Mahalaya, this day marks the beginning of Devi paksha and end of pitri paksha. In the bengali household this day is celebrated with great pomp as it is believed on this day itself Goddess Durga appeared for the first time. Listening to " Mahishasur Mardini" by legendary Birendra Krishna Bhadra is almost a ritual among bengalis. Apart from this bursting crackers and special tv programs are also there.
          
          On this day I pray for everyone's safety and happiness, may Goddess Durga shower her blessings on each one of us.
