honestly I don't resonate with any Dabi interpretation, I don't think he's a softie but I also don't think hes a jerk
I think the problem is that he's like Aiden and I'm the only who understands Aiden so therefore I understand Dabi in a level that is not surface
whenever people write character-centric fics with Dabi in them he is either a caring person or an abvsive a**hole. I like to read them no matter the interpretation but not a single fic has made me feel that this is Dabi and not some placeholder that happens to be a mha character, whereas with other characters they at least keep their core personalities and dynamics (ffs, not even DABI CENTRIC fics made me feel like that)
from what we've seen in canon he's sassy and vengeful, he cares about the league even if he doesn't act like it. I see him more of a silly guy who grins mischievously whenever he commits a crime than the master manipulator everyone thinks he is (he did show Hawks the nomu lab for NO REASON. considering he later reveals that he never trusted him bro was doing this for his own entertainment)
