          I pushed myself up with a groan, blinking through the soft morning light leaking past my curtains. my phone buzzed beside me—6:30 a.m., right on schedule. I rubbed at my eyes, stretched until my arms popped, and swung my legs out of bed. we had about thirty minutes before we had to leave. and I still had to wake him up.
          
          I padded down the hall to Jungwon's room, already knowing what I'd find. door slightly open. lights off. a lump under the covers that definitely wasn't moving.
          
          I knocked anyway, out of habit. "Yang Jungwon!!!"
          
          nothing.
          
          I pushed the door open a little more and leaned in. "hey. time to get up."
          
          still nothing.
          
          I walked over, pulled the edge of his blanket down, and—yep. completely out cold. hair flattened on one side, mouth slightly open. I fought a grin, imagining him as young Justin Bieber for no apparent reason now. but I knew I had to wake him up.
          
          "Yang fucking Jungwon, if you're late on your first day of high school, I'm not helping you make excuses," I said, flicking the light on and off.
          
          he groaned and pulled the covers over his head. "nooo, noonaaaa."
          
          "yes." I tugged at the blanket again. "come on. up."
          
          "five minutes," came the muffled reply.
          
          "you said that yesterday. and the day before. and—wait, yeah, literally every day this summer." I crossed my arms. "do you want to be known as the freshman who shows up after the bell? your image is going to be ruined."
          
          "I don't care," he protested, shifting to his side to face away from me.
          
          "well, I don't want to be the older sister of that kid. so up. now." I swatted him on the shoulder.

I work better when I set myself a deadline so here is information and release dates of the two other books of the 'his' series!!!
          
          Jake, book #2, will be released on 8/13 - "in which the popular soccer captain Yang Yewon learns that one of her friends, Sim Jake, had buried his feelings for her throughout the years, until he showed it."
          
          Sunghoon, book #3, will be released on 8/19 -  "in which the new student Lim Hyeseo finds herself entangled with Park Sunghoon, the loud and popular skating prodigy whom everyone adores."

          she's sitting by the school entrance, her wheelchair parked by the wall, her eyes staring at nothing in particular, but I notice the way her hands rest on the wheels — the way she doesn't fidget, like she's just... waiting.
          
          I don't know why, but I find myself drawn to her. It's like she's a mirror, in a way.
          
          she doesn't try to pretend, doesn't try to be something she's not. there's no mask, no need to impress. just her. quiet, still, and enough. she knows that no matter how hard she tried to fit in, people would judge, no matter what. just like how I feel.
          
          we make eye contact for a brief second, and there's something about it that feels like a crack in the wall I've built. like she's not seeing me through the lens of expectations. she's just seeing me — the real me, the one I try so hard to hide.
          
          and for once, it feels like I'm not failing.
          
          like I'm not trying to be something I'll never be.
