_marmoris_

I finally did it!
My two entries this year are out which are:
          	1. THOSE WHO HUNGER
A crime and forbidden love story set in 1920s prague, with a few allusions to Anna Karenina

          	2. THE WORDS WE BURN
A fantasy novella centering a war, book bans, magical typewriters, and a soldier-eating virus.

Any graphics like aesthetics are yet to come.
I planned to post a third story, too—my Gothic novella about an old mansion and a protagonist finding the person in the mirror might not be herself. But I'm currently keeping that to post somewhen in the future and not for the ONC. Tbh, this first round was horrible. I'm still kind of stuck with writers block and my old laptop which is as fast a dying snail (bc my regular one sure knew the right moment to quit working), and uni keeps me busy, too. I'm truly not sure if I will make it to the end this year. Anyways, I have a bunch of good entries to read now!

But what about you? Did you submit (or will in the last hours)?

@chaikovskiy  I hope you'll like it! ^^

Hey!

How is your ONC story going? Will you publish and submit one or not?

I still have to edit mine, but I'm on the way and should be able to finish in time. ^^

          Best of luck,
          C

I read your announcement too, those things are really unlucky, but you still managed two, that's amazing!

_marmoris_

@C_the_Dreamer Yes! I planned on three—to then stick with one or two until the end. But uni, some technical issues, and writers block made me keep the third one for later, eventually, though I even thought this would end up THE one ^^"

this year's onc prompt dropped and I'm still torn between so many ideas:
          1. another folkloric lasow story, this time with a rusalka protagonist and kupala night as a backdrop (and yeah that would force me to finally upload the last chapters of wdct bc it's getting embarrassing)
          2. a tale inspired by gothic horror and romanticism (all the fuzz about nosferatu is getting me inspired, i'm a dracula girly after all)
          3. a 1920s set slavic crime mystery and forbidden love story with allusions to anna karenina
or, finally, 4. a fantasy war story, revolving around libraries and book bans/burnings, with vague violet evergarden/divine rivals/ghibli's howl's moving castle vibes...
that i'm currently stuck in a writer's block doesn't necessarily help, too :'D

anyway...have you decided already on your prompt and come up with this year's entry? which one did you take?

_marmoris_

@alacakarabora it has a good chance of being the one!

@_marmoris_ You're welcome! And I'm looking forward to seeing which one you choose :)

Thank you! That's the nice thing about ONC, you can try new ideas, that you otherwise wouldn't! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed reading last year's entry :) It can be so difficult sometimes to find the time, as life just seems to get in the way. I also loved your two stories, so I look forward to finishing those too! :) Feel free to tag me, once you've published your first chapter! ^^

it's onc season again! (soon)

i'm so exited and full of way too many ideas! on the other hand i know that the upcoming months could be stressful uni-wise so i have no idea if i'll manage to make it to the end. anyways, i'm looking forward to reading a bunch of great novellas again.

are you planning to participate this year? do you already have vague plans what kind of story you want to go for?

_marmoris_

@LoveCatxO Oscar Wilde? Virginia Woolf? Count me in. I love how much you've already got and everything about it sounds like it will make up for a great novella. i'm still not sure in which direction i wanna go this year :'D

@_marmoris_ BSo far, I’ve got this:

            Working Title: “Between Worlds”

            Setting:
London, circa the late 1890s, a time when social inequality and the divide between classes are becoming increasingly apparent. Industrial growth brings prosperity to the wealthy, while workers and the lower classes endure harsh living conditions. London itself is a mosaic of dazzling theatre performances, fashionable cafés, and exclusive clubs, contrasted with the dusty, overcrowded streets of the working-class districts.

            Main Character:
Henry Hops – A young, penniless man in his early twenties, working in a café in London’s West End. He comes from a poor working-class family and has only ever known life at the bottom of the social ladder. Henry possesses a natural curiosity and a sharp eye for the world around him, but so far he lacks an understanding of the larger political and social structures that sustain the imbalance between the classes.

Characters: Maybe Oscar Wilde and Virginia Woolf will make a guest appearance

But I’m already dreading the research now… so, we will see …

hey, guys!

i finally got to add a few additional scenes to "how the shadows feast" i couldn't include in the last two chapters due to lack of time during the onc. perhaps you'd like to check it out!

i wish i had more time to finally upload the final chapters of "what death cannot touch" but finishing my bachelor's degree keeps me quite busy atm.

onc longlist it is where this year's journey will end then...

tbh i am a little disappointed and happy at the same time. i see all of “htsf”'s flaws, and for it being my second english work at all, making it this far is a great result. on the other hand, we all hope for the best despite not expecting it, don't we?

regardless, it was a fun time and i hope to do even better next year.

until then: congrats to all shortlisters — i'm rooting for you now!

_marmoris_

@C_the_Dreamer Thank you! Yes -- we'll become better and better each year :)

@AwSprite I'm glad to hear that despite not making it, some people enjoy the story! I hope you'll like the rest, too.

Oh, I definitely know this but I feel in English I turn blind when it comes to mistakes way faster. I'm currently in the process of translating it and stumble upon stupid little errors way too often that are actually very obvious. So, at least I learned that I have to plan more time for taking a step back from my newest chapter and more rounds of proofreading.

Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to reading your entry too!

Sadly none of the writers I rooted for made it to the shortlist...
