To anyone looking for inspiration: when he published his first ever book, Peter Benchley genuinely believed nobody would notice or care about it, and it would pretty much blip right off the radar. That book was JAWS.

also, this just in: Jim Hudson (the blind art dealer) in Get Out was not there as the movies way of saying "ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE EVIL NO MATER WHAT!!1!!11 RAAAHHHH!!11!" or "BLIND PEOPLE ARE EVIL AND JEALOUS1!! ABLEISM!!", Jim Hudson in Get Out was a genius fucking two-level and utterly horrifying pun about how 'colour-blind racists' ("I don't see skin colour", "skin colour doesn't mean anything to me") are still FUCKING RACIST, and how even good-natured people who don't think of themselves as racist, and don't even come off as racist, can still choose to be BLIND to the suffering of people of colour if it helps them get ahead in life because they have that privilege. The movie was a multi-faceted gem about the erasure of identity and culture in favour of old white folk, and it forced people to face all the little and supposedly 'positive' ways that their unintended racism could negatively affect people of colour and shed light on the fact that you don't need to be a goddamn neo-nazi who souts epitahs about "blacks are the inferior race" to be a racist. it was not your fucking paint-by-the-colour, run-of-the-mill bullshit, so can we all please stop downgrading a brilliant thriller-horror/political satire to "Oh yeah lol white people = mindless evil , black people = mindless good whatev"?

editor: you should insert more Amurricahn characters into your book to appeal to a wider audience.
