My personal tips when publishing a new story based on my own observations and experience:
1. Publish during peak hours.
Timing matters more than people think because it gives your story a better chance to get early reads, votes, and interactions.
2. Don't publish with only one chapter.
I usually upload at least 3 chapters first for new published book so readers have enough content to engage with, vote on, and comment on.
3. Keep updating even if your story isn't appearing in tag rankings yet.
From my experience, consistency helps. Even if nothing seems to be happening, keep going.
4. Once your story starts appearing in tag rankings, stay consistent with updates as much as possible.
Momentum is important. If you suddenly disappear for a long time, rankings can drop and reader engagement can slow down. Tag rankings are one of the biggest ways stories get discovered.
5. Once your story becomes more stable and already has loyal readers, you can slowly adjust your update pace.
Just don't leave it inactive for too long.
6. Make Chapter 1 as strong as possible.
The first chapter is usually where readers decide if they want to continue or not. I always try to make my opening chapter interesting enough to hook readers right away.
7. Have a lock-on or hinge chapter early.
I usually try to have one before Chapter 15. It's the chapter that gets readers invested enough that they want to keep going no matter what.
8. End chapters with a hook.
Most of my chapters end with a cliffhanger, question, reveal, or emotional moment that makes readers want to click "Next."
