can someone explain to me the purpose of writing your own fanfiction if you’re just rewriting the entire series? like you rewrite every scene, every conversation, everything that happens in canon, and then just throw your OC into the background sometimes.

@afteryourkiss Oh, don’t even get me started on this. Why are we just copy and pasting the show into book format and changing only two small parts? It’s pointless. Don’t get me wrong, canon is fine, but I don’t want to read every minute detail from the episode just for your OC to say a few lines. At that point, I might as well just rewatch it.

i hate when ppl do this!! or when they just take dialogue from other characters and give it to the oc!!! it just makes it feel like the oc has no substance or personality bc it’s all being stolen from other characters in the show/ book

@afteryourkiss I agree! The whole point of making an oc is to include them and change canon. That's the literal idea. Nobody reads a fanfic or sticks around if it's just the whole episode and not plot given to your oc!

Guys, I have an itch. Ever since someone asked me if I’d write a Jax Teller fic, I literally can’t stop thinking about it. I LOVE Charlie Hunnam, and I already have so many ideas… the only problem is I’ve never watched Sons of Anarchy. 
          
          Should I do it or am I insane?

Please do it! I don’t think you have to watch the whole show though only knowing the important parts or  relationship dynamics should be enough!

Not insane. You don’t have to watch Sons of Anarchy to write it. Honestly you don’t have to follow the show at all if you don’t want to.

I do know the series, and I know who Jax Teller is because I absolutely love Charlie Hunnam.  But I haven’t actually watched Sons of Anarchy, so I’m not sure if I should write about him without knowing the show properly.
            
            I could definitely look into the basics and familiarize myself with the characters and storyline first. And if you’d be interested, I could give it a try and see where it takes me

I’ve been thinking, and for now I’m going to take Men Like Him down. 
          
          I’m not deleting it! I just don’t feel completely happy with how it’s written right now, and I want to change a few things.
          
          I’ll rewrite it, work on the characters and story, and bring it back once I’m genuinely happy with it….with new chapters too.

I’m sorry, girl  But that’s exactly why I want to rewrite it and make it better. Seeing how much you guys love the story makes me want to give it the version it deserves instead of leaving it as it is.
