So like i made up a theory about your sunoo ff because i have no life so heres what i think hehe:
Dai-Lan is apart of sunoo. Like shes not her own person shes apart of Sunoo. Dai-Lan has been there since childhood right? Dai-lan represents sunoos loneliness and sadness. You said she was “invisible” to the world or something along those lines and i think she literally is. She has all of the sad traits so she represents that side of sunoo. Sunoo is lonely and sad and doesn’t really have any friends as Dai-lan said. But when Sunoo comes home one day saying that he fell in love with someone, THATS when Dai-lan starts getting sick. Sunoo has experienced true happiness and isnt by himself anymore so therefore he doesn’t need Dai-lan anymore. She held all of the bad memories and started disappearing because Sunoo has finally found someone who brought comfort to him!!!!

Dai-Lan is definitely a projection of Sunoo’s inner loneliness ,, and it’s very debatable whether Dai-lan was actually “good” for Sunoo. although i had started writing with another concept in mind, i think in between i shifted to one basically what you said! you must be really good with theories on mvs and such :>
