The first concerns the large pit of contaminated corpses. The reason they were dumped into that mass grave without a proper burial was that the pilgrims didn't know about the parasites and assumed the victims had died from their own excesses. Once the food issue is resolved, perhaps you could have them burn the pit—partly to decontaminate it, but mainly to show respect for the deceased. Secondly, I think it would be interesting if, in the future, the "Pale Guide" (that’s how I like to refer to the MC) introduced them to human concepts—for instance, telling them stories about a realm of eternal punishment where sinners go after death, known as Hell or something similar. I understand that the protagonist is a new man with a new body, but I’d love for him to bring some cultural concepts from his old world into the new one, even if just a little bit.
