“I don’t know, Jack. I’m not a doctor. Clearly, it’s possible. How else would Trevor still be alive? Are you suggesting I had something to do with it?” I shook my head and tried to lower my voice. “It’s crazy. Think about it.”
Jack scoffed and said, “He is alive because of you. I don’t know how you did it, but you did.” He lowered his head closer to mine to the point that we were almost touching. “And if you think I’ve said a word to anyone, then you’re wrong. I told you I wouldn’t say anything, and you have my word. I just want to know how you did it, Logan.”
He was trying to get me to crack, and he was doing a damn good job of it, too. I could feel my breathing become shallow, and my heart was racing. My knees began to buckle with every breath he took.
Could I trust Jack to keep my secret if I told him? I barely knew him, but being around him was comforting and almost normal. I liked normal. I have never wanted to touch anyone before, not even family, but it took everything I had not to reach up and touch his face while he peered down at me.
Before I could react, Jack brought his hand up to my cheek and stared at me. I braced myself for the vibration that was caused by his touch, but nothing came. I’ve seen in movies that usually when a guy touches or kisses a girl for the first time, she sees fireworks or has some sort of intense reaction, but I felt nothing, and I loved it. He was the first person I could touch without feeling some kind of discomfort. I never wanted the feeling to go away. I wanted to stay like this, with him, forever.
“Please, just tell me,” he whispered.
