alex would you like to be moots? mwah <333
just found out all the young dudes is going to be traditionally published and why does every popular fanfiction have to be traditionally published bro we’re loosing the art of fanfics
@alexspotatoes The main thing that changed is that now publishing is growing more and more accessible. You can publish stuff on your own, with a relatively low budget. And isn't this amazing? More people than ever before can share their voices. Minorities or people with lower income. Groups that would historically be silenced because they would have to cater to publishing houses. Obviously a lot of "crap" will be published (I say "crap" in quotes because these are still someone else's hard work and I really don't think these authors deserve to be hated on. Also, we all started somewhere and they can still improve with time. There is nothing shameful about being an amateur). I guess I just wanted to offer a different perspective. I agree that a lot of stories are too basic, dull, uninteresting etc. I just don't think overall this will ruin anything. No one is denied access to good books. I actually think that books is like one of the least problematic genres of art in that regard. Movies have it way worse since you cannot produce them with 2000$ in your bank account, so if the movie studios decide to produce crap, we are fucked. With books it's not the case. SORRY FOR THE RANT, I DIDN'T MEAN FOR IT TO BE THIS LONG T.T
@alexspotatoes damn, if they delete the original then yeah, that's awful T.T I assumed it'd be more like 'After,' where it was left up after publishing. I also wonder what will happen to the audiobook then? I guess it would have to be taken down as well. In a way I find it even worse because the person who narrated it put in SO MUCH WORK, it was so well done. But even with that issue aside, I still feel like ATYD is simply the worst pick to publish traditionally. I get why, for example, After or The Love Hypothesis were published, since they took place in our modern world. The setting wasn't really important. It was already kind of an original story, but with familiar faces slapped on top. But ATYD is so tightly connected to the world of Harry Potter... it will simply lose its charm. But I don't agree that the overall trend is ruining anything. I mean, it IS frustrating, I do care deeply about craft and it annoys me to see obviously poorly written prose being praised online, but at the end of the day... no one forces us to read those. They exist, they give some people joy and that's okay. There is still room left for good books. Publishing market is not some finite space where only a 1000 books can be published yearly and not one more ;P published ff isn't stealing anything from us. And poorly written books have always been there. Harlequin books date like a 100 years back. And there were still a lot of important, high quality books published in the meantime.
@justicefordebling first off the point is that the original fanfic WILL be deleted, that’s what happened with menacled/alchemized. second, fanfiction is written by fans literally for fun. i get wanting to profit off it to an extend, but if you want to profit then write an original book. a lot of fanfiction is deeply rooted into its original source, literally all the young dudes is a prime example, so it would be hard to remake into a real story. also, when i read fanfiction, i CARE about the characters because i already know them. there’s so many more “basic love story fanfics” that are getting published where the story is just mid and i don’t care about the characters. idk, fanfiction is written by fans with love, and if we’re just doing it to monetize it eventually doesn’t sit right with me. it ruins fanfiction AND it ruins the publishing market, but to each their own. idk if i’m making sense i just woke up tho hahahaha
Hello I’m wondering if you would ever make another mha fic ??
hi! currently i don’t plan to, i still need to finish the bakugo one im writing haha
