Hello , I absolutely LOVED Shattered Crown.
Is it based of Kingdom of Heaven?

You are so right , sickness takes so much from a person.
Baldwin was probably the best king that ever lived , and his people loved him for exactly the reasons you shared.
I liked him from the start.
So tragic that he never found someone who loved him just for being him.
And yes , his illness ,which was nearly always fatal back then {unless you lived in Jesus's time , he healed lepers in the Bible } , makes the romance angle truly heartbreaking.
I hope you will fall in love with my novel , & my two main characters.
Lea & William's romance is truly sweet & heartwarming.
One of my favorite little known ww2 drama films inspired it.
            Hope you enjoy!

            It really is tragic
And yes—both things can be true. Historically, Baldwin was often described as calm, thoughtful, and gentle in manner, but in battle he could be ruthless when he needed to be. That contrast is actually what fascinates a lot of historians: he wasn’t cruel by nature, but he understood war and didn’t hesitate when the kingdom was at stake.
As for marriage—no, he never married and was never formally betrothed. His illness and the political situation made it incredibly complicated, and most sources suggest he knew he wouldn’t live long enough to build that kind of life. Which… honestly makes the romance angle even more heartbreaking.
And your novel sounds beautiful A WWII romance like that—gentleness surviving trauma—is exactly my kind of story. I’d genuinely love to read it. Lea and that dynamic sound right up my alley.
I’m really excited for you to see how this slow burn unfolds

@allygee1218 It's so tragic what happens to Baldwin at the end.
I've done a bit of reading about him , and most sources stated that was what he was like. Some historians said he could be ruthless in battle , was that true? That sounds completely alien to how you described him.
Did the real -life Baldwin ever marry ? I don't even remember whether he was betrothed to anyone or not.
I can't wait to watch their romance unfold.
I think you would like my novel a lot.
It's a ww2 romance between a warm & loving nurse & a war traumatized , but still gentle young soldier with a spinal cord injury that my OC Lea finds true love with.
