Congratulations to all the winners of #Wattys2020. You are an inspiration to all who continue to write their hearts out.
Then again, what did I learn in the past 7 years I have been submitting entries to the Wattpad Awards?
My works are garbage. Trash. Rubbish. A 10 year old could have written better, and that is doing injustice to the kid.
That's right. What else to explain this loss? Writing experience and passion to the discipline is not sufficient to win it. In the end, the market wants what the market wants. No sugarcoating it with "you can do better" or "it does not mean it is not good" and so on. Any creator can call their works masterpieces, but those who do not see their weaknesses and mend them are bound by their hubris.
I suppose this is a formal declaration of what I have been doing anyway in the past months - an indefinite hiatus in story writing. Nobody is reading anyway, so why bother? Maybe my type of creativity is not the kind this era wants. Fine and well. I am also withdrawing some of my works because, apparently, it is just a waste of digital space. This I have pondered during the waiting time of the Wattys results, and sure, it might sound crazy, but this is just about it.
One has to be able to distinguish the difference between an unwinnable battle and a battle lost. I have no talent here, and no amount of training and more training helped me catch the gap. Better call it a decade and find better pastures.
Call me negative, but pragmatism is not pessimism. Hope we all survive this crisis and see each other soon. Probably not with me as a writer, but God knows.
Here goes my last novel ever to be completed. Not my best but why not?

Thank you for the past decade. Time to move forward and reach for new goals.
