On this Women's Day, if you are a girl or a guy, a man, or a woman, if you care about my happiness, then take a pledge to try your best and make this country better for women, in any way you can- starting from treating your brother and sister or son and daughter equally, to taking a stand for the wronged person in public.

Happy Women's Day to all women who are happy today. I cannot be, because I have watched something that has scarred me and I have decided to take a stand. When I do not feel self- worth, or the society thinks its wrong for me to have self-worth, then why am I taking pride in being a woman and celebrating Women's Day? Why am I following the West where things are better for the women. Wake up girls. Wake up to the reality.

@Rejino I know. In fact, some of the American states deprive women of their rights in the silliest of ways. I wasn't meaning to generalise. I was trying to put out the perspective that most Indian have, thinking that the West is better and if we copy them, we will automatically become better.

@ananyaghosh67 Actually, things are much worse in the West. According to wikipedia, the annual crime rate against women in India has increased from 1.9 to 2.0 per 100,000 people over 2008-2012 period. This compares to a reported crime rate of 12.3 per 100,000 in Mexico, 24.1 per 100,000 in United Kingdom and 28.6 per 100,000 in United States. So, don't generalize. No offence.
