          azure irises shy away from emma’s emerald ones . anna was afraid that she’d be made fun of because of what she had written , although she knew that none of the other children would actually belittle her for this . nonetheless , she thought it’d be embarrassing . “ it’s . . . ” she attempts to fabricate an excuse for emma to not want to read her notebook , but gives up when she remembers that once emma sets her want for something , it’d be impossible for her to change her mind . 
          
          anna reluctantly hands emma her notebook . the first ten pages were meticulously written with what she wants to do once she leaves grace field — things like what she wants to be when she grows up , what kind of clothes she’d want to wear , the places she wants to visit . . . all written in great detail with occasional doodles drawn beside the words .

          " e - emma .. ?! " startled by emma's sudden appearance , anna immediately closes the notebook she had been writing on and looks back at emma as though nothing happened . " ah — sure ! " she says in her usual lulling voice . notebook at hand , she jumps off the rock she had sat on and walks over to emma .
