heaven and back by theforestgreene is such an underrated book, the writing, the plot and character dynamics are insane.
only a few books on here have built up the suspense and anticipation so brilliantly
when i first read it about a year ago i was hooked, im on a reread and its better than ever! you guys should really check it out :)

some things i personally dislike in a book…
• the verbal communication rule (like wdym you’re not allowed to nod?)
•the rules, a lot of the time some of these rules give prisoner…also it always seems like the rules are only there for the mc to follow, i get that it also alludes to the plot twist etc (mafia etc) but i feel like it could be done a better way
• the one by one introductions, like when they introduce multiple people with their name and age like a list — it feels so awkward to me and odd, like an army introduction
• the weird possessiveness (i immediately click off a book when i notice that stuff cus i’ve seen some scary stuff and i just can’t)
• the xander trope (i fell victim to this when i first started my book and now i hate it, it can be done well sometimes but it is excessive a lot of the times but i’ve seen some really good examples of writers exploring that and the root of why the character acts that way, in the caged series & sucker punch for example)

@annalisebyers yess, even if it is fiction the characters are written as real human beings with real human feelings, so it makes no sense to traumatise them and not show the long lasting effects. everyone copes in different ways but at the end of the day trauma isn’t something that you can just forget about. i’m constantly dropping books bec sometimes i genuinely feel like im being ragebaited. LOL

@mary4mm its a rare gem when i find a book with a traumatised mc where i don’t feel the need to drop it, i recognise that its fiction but ignoring how the trauma impacts their life is so dangerous! not only is it highly unrealistic as well as dismissive, i feel sick at the thought of people who have gone through those things reading that, especially for young readers :(

@Lama19688 the abuse thing is so real, like wdym ur just act like everything okay and you’ve healed after a day??? makes no sense and is so jarring, like especially if you’ve built it up to be a major plot point. i also hate when authors make it seem like having sibling and bonding with them has immediately healed their past, just bec they’re not alone anymore doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten all the trauma they’ve been through. i’ve recently dropped so many books as soon as i started reading them bec of this
