            in  her  own  way.    assuming  you  care  for  max  even  partially  the  amount  you   ( should ),    you  will  understand  that  my  following  warning  is  that  of  the  concerned  kind.     {  her  words,   as  always,   come  quick  and  sharper  than  knives  while  she  watches  lucas  closely,   gauging  his  reaction.  }     listen  to  me  very,   very  carefully.   you  are  one  of  the  three  tolerable  hijos  in  your  little  group.   i  would  loathe  for  anything  to  happen  to  you.    with  that  in  mind  :  if  it  so  happens  that  she  arrives  to  me  in  distress  o  heartbreak  over  you,   i  will  be  swift  in  allowing  nature  to  take  it's  course  in  a  way  unfathomable  to  even  the  french  bourgeois  of  the  fourteenth  century.    have  i  made  myself  clear.

            yeah, i know that. of course i do.  [  max manages a subtle nod, despite the stiffness in her neck. she bites down on the inside of her cheek, feeling that familiar wave of guilt coming up in a way that makes her feel nauseous. ]   and  --  i don't expect you to trust my word on that. especially after all i did was push you away for so long. but i do know and i  ..  i'm still glad you're here.
