It sounds like maybe he has fallen out of whatever he was feeling for you. I’ve been in similar situations before, on both sides, and I think the key thing is to not stick around for something that isn’t good for you. He shouldn’t keep you just close enough to make you want to talk to him, nor should you keep persisting when it’s becoming clear to you how he feels. Trying to stay friends in a situation like this is an option, a respectable one too, since many aren’t capable, but it’s rarely practical unfortunately
