well,   so did you.   glad you went with her.   but yeah,   everything's been fine.   dad's   ...   dad.   no changes there.

i think that's a nice idea.   dad has someone lay flowers at mom's grave every month but   ...   it feels so   —   what's the word   —   impersonal.   like,   why pay someone else to do it when it would be more meaningful to do it yourself?   i think that shows you care.

it's okay,   believe me.   i understand that you've got more than enough on your shoulders.   just know that i'm here for you,   and i'm not the only one.   you've got a lot of people who you can talk to,   even when it feels like you don't.   i promise.

(  she laughed and hugged him back,   making the squeeze extra tight.  )   it's no big deal,   you never have to get me anything.   but i'm so glad you like them.   figured you could use a little treat.

she smiled softly,   pulling back from him a bit so she could look up at him.   "  awesome,   my treat.   we can get whatever you want.   i can only imagine what kind of an appetite you've been working up the last few days,  "   she said with a soft chuckle.

"let's get you something to eat then,   yeah?   and then you can tell me everything that happened.   and maybe we'll check and see if you need to be patched up.   i have a friend who's been teaching me all sorts of medical stuff,   it's been really handy these days.
