when tommy had happened upon the cozy spruce cottage in the middle of arctic, half dead and freezing, he was obviously rather eager to break in and find some food and supplies and warmth. a little bit of looking around the place and he knew where he was. the prospect of being in his father’s house after everything at first frightened him — if the man found him, what would he do to him? however, so eager to feel comfortable and warm and just in a home, he stayed. it wasn’t like he had anywhere else to go. he stole things from the chest without much reserve, trying to nurse himself back to health, in case the pink haired individual did end up finding him. he wasn’t very good at it however, and he was both too proud and maybe nervous to ask for help. in fact, as he heard the homeowner’s footsteps up the stairs, he shut the chest he was scavenging through with a loud bang to scurry down to the hole he’d burrowed into the basement.

phil was used to taking in lost children, he was sort of a ragtag father in a way, and finding another wasn't a big deal. except this one looked like his own biological son, he could tell it wasn't, he knew his wilbur and this one had subtle differences. still, he crouched and held out a hand.
