@ashbytheisle YES, I was so surprised when I heard that Texas was its' own country for a little while, it seems so random. Florida is just something else icl

@eternal_solace i always find it hard to believe that texas was its own country or wtv for nine years. florida is sm much more its own specie imo

              my relationship with languages is kind of conplicated haha!
            ▪︎  i was born and raised in america so english is my primary/most dominant language
            
            ▪︎ my parents’ language is bengali and that’s what i use to talk with them. sometimes i’m a bit stiff in it, but i can speak and understand on a native level. however, i was never properly taught to read or write in it and don’t really use it outside of my family. i got tutored on how to read and write classical arabic from when i was little up until i was a teenager for religious purposes, so i can recite it but don’t understand the meaning. does that make sense haha?  
            
            ▪︎ the only languages i’ve “studied” are spanish and korean. i took spanish in school for four years, and have been learning korean for seven years now. i haven’t really kept up my spanish skills, but i still use korean to communicate with friends/colleagues/peers so i would say i’m more comfortable in korean
            
            ▪︎ other than that, i know basic mandarin and russian phrases, mainly from friends and from growing up in a multicultural part of NYC. i also sing in a choir and we do a lot of french, italian and german music (about to do a tchaikovsky unit soon so maybe we’ll see some more russian!) so i have very limited command of those languages, mainly reading and pronunciation. 
            
            overall, i would say i’m only proficient in english, bengali and korean but still learning! linguistics is a really cool field of study and i love meeting multilingual people! how many/what languages do you speak?
