@ShortCakeFlavoredCat omg im so sorry I thought you were talking about the other fic I'm working on and about to post (Golden Crown of Sorrow)!! I honestly can't give you a day count on Zaman bc that's gonna take me ages to finish....if it's any consolation it's about 111,000 words right now so it'll likely take a bit to get through if you want to start reading it! As for Golden Crown of Sorrow, I'll be done with that in 5 days at most lol

alrighty since I don't know where else to ask this question, all my lovely followers are going to get it. I'm curious. Why couldn't Itachi and Sasuke have just done a little eye-switcheroo so that they could both get the EMS? Like I get that Itachi wanted Sasuke to kill him for his own martyr reasons, but say Itachi wasn't Like That. If they both wanted the EMS couldn't they have just plucked out their eyeballs and traded? I bet I'm missing some Very Important Uchiha Law here, but like........it should work, right? Anyway. Many thoughts. If anyone has a real answer to this, I would love to know!
@xKaileo yeah that definitely makes sense! There's probably some ~emotional~ aspect to it too since the Sharingan is awakened after a particularly traumatizing/emotionally charged moment, so it would also make sense if you need that good ol' Uchiha trauma as well to get the EMS. That trauma coming from plucking out your sibling's eyeballs, of course. Anyway thank you for all the explanation! Your recall of Naruto lore is very impressive!
@ashitheviolinist I don't know if genetic material of any kind is necessarily needed; it probably has something specifically to do with the eyes. We do know that the individual eyes are linked as we saw with Obito and Kakashi; their individual Kamui types connected to the same Kamui dimension, and it was the same event beings witnessed that unlocked the MS for them (likely more so due to Obito being alive and witnessing it). I want to say it works much closer to an organ transplant IRL in that you have to be 'compatible' for the organ (which in this case is why it's limited to a close family member like a parent or sibling) otherwise your body just won't accept it. There's likely something significant with the eye itself that factors into it more than just outright genetic material.
@xKaileo wow thank you so much for the super thorough explanation! And you're definitely right, the whole legend of kill your best friend then kill your sibling is a Very important lore point and it would probably kill the drama if the legend was "kill your best friend then ask your sibling politely if y'all can swap eyes". My nerd ass is now obsessed with the idea of CRISPR-ing an Uchiha into getting the EMS is genetic material is what you need lmao. Anyway, Uchiha eye stuff is fun and I love trying to figure out how any of it works!

@tythis Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! I think you commented on ao3 too (though it may just be similar usernames?) and I'm so glad you've been enjoying it!! I'm honestly surprised that I've been able to keep writing it since I planned most of it out when I was 13 so the chances of good quality were honestly so low, but shout-out to 13 year old me! I set the fic up pretty nicely!
I have been writing the next few chapters of Zaman with the chunin exams wiki page, Itachi's wiki page, and the tuberculosis wikipedia page open if you want an idea of where I'm going with this. long story short I haven't watched an episode of this show in years and it REALLY shows
was just informed that Itachi having tuberculosis is NOT canon??? sucks. it's canon now because I said so <3
