I'm aArab and Muslim, so I feel like I have some say so here. :) It's not offensive! It's only offensive if the portrayal is incorrect. For example, if you write a Muslim character and they're accurate (aka they don't eat pork, they don't date, and they pray 5 times a day) while also not turning them into a stereotype, then that's great! It's always wonderful when people who aren't part of a minority write about minority cultures and stuff. The problem comes when the minority characters are written incorrectly as the result of misinformation or lazy writing. Example: giving a Muslim girl a boyfriend or portraying an Arab man as a t*rrorist.
