Excerpt from my first Character Interview on my blog for Echolite, Chapter One :)
Serafima: Jin-Haru, how do you feel about your introduction to, essentially, what the reader can expect throughout the book?
Jin-Haru: We meet my character in a very vulnerable, fragile state. Really not at his best. And before you really know anything about him, who he is or what happened, he starts singing. If the rest of the story will give a lot of build up and context to the lyrics, here we just go straight into it. It's raw. It's a song about how my charcater feels frustrated over the fact that things just never seem to look up for him, and he kind of knows why but also doesn't quite understand why.
Serafima: It's quite neurodivergent-coded, if I can say that as your co-lyricist.
Jin-Haru: Sure. But what the first chapter says about him, more than anything is the fact that—look, my character said way more in his musical number than he even spoke in the entire chapter I think. Mason just talks and talks and doesn't shut up.
Mason: [laughs]
Jin-Haru: For two chapters, in fact.
