Barbara Mumby was born and raised in California's Central Valley, where her family's Native American heritage and work as migrant farmers greatly influenced her passion for social justice and equity issues. She is a 2019 Open Society Racial Equality Fellow where she worked to develop a tool kit to support BIPOC communities as they assess and address racism in public art. Recently, she held the position of Vice President of Programs and Partnerships at the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation where she oversaw a 40,000 square foot arts facility and implemented the buildings inaugural series of public programs and exhibitions. As the Director of Community Investments at the San Francisco Arts Commission, Barbara oversaw four cultural centers and a grants portfolio of $11 million dollars annually to small and mid-sized arts organizations, individual artists, and teaching artists. Prior to SFAC, Barbara designed and implemented large-scale early childhood education initiatives and grant programs in both Alameda and Merced County through their respective First 5 organizations. Barbara obtained her undergraduate degrees in Native American Studies and Studio Arts from the University of California Berkeley and her masters degrees in Museum Studies and Business Administration from John F Kennedy University.
