not  all  of  them,  i  think.  but  it’s  the  greeks—  they  loved  making  things  sad.  or  disgusting.  or  both.       (  she  shook  her  head.  )     i  think  it’s  related  to  the  gods.  in  many  myths,  humans  compare  themselves  to  the  gods,  which  angers  them  since  they’re  powerful  immortal  beings,  and  they  punish  the  humans  after  proving  they’re  better.  which,  yeah,  sometimes  could  be  a  bit  extreme,  but  like—  they’re  gods,  y’know?  they  were  worshipped  and—  wait  i’m  getting  off  topic,  sorry.

            [  lettie moved slightly to face her completely,  giving salem her undivided attention.  she gasped,  not once but twice,  as she spoke.  ]  aw,  she never got to raise her son,  and then he kills  her  ??  that’s so sad ..  and even in death they couldn’t be together.  are all of the constellations this sad  ?  

(  her  entire  face  lit  up  at  the  chance—  oh  she  loved  sharing  knowledge.  )     so—  starting off with more commonly known constellations,  the  ursa  major  and  minor—  bears.  there  was  a  nymph  named  callisto,  and  she  was  a  hunter  of  artemis  which  basically  meant  renouncing  all  romance  and  such.  zeus  found  her  real  pretty  and  he  pretended  to  be  artemis  and  got  her  pregnant—  weird  logic  but  not  important.  she  hid  it  and  when  artemis  found  out  she  was  kicked  out  and  turned  into  a  bear,  so  her  son  was  raised  by  other  people.  he  became  a  hunter  and  years  later  killed  her  because  she  was  a  bear  and  he  didn’t  know  it  was  his  mom,  and  zeus  felt  bad  so  he  turned  her  into  the  ursa  major.  when  her  son  died  he  turned  him  into  the  ursa  minor  so  they  could  be  reunited,  but  hera  got  jealous  and  put  them  far  far  away  from  each  other.  

yeah,  real  pretty.    (  she  nodded  earnestly,  the  flush  of  her  cheeks  going  unnoticed  due  to  her  easily  distracted  tired  state.  )     and  amazing.  and  lovely.  and  fascinating.  and  just  so  nice  to  be  around.  i  like  being  around  you  lotts.

you’re  lucky  you  can’t  see  them.  or  hear  them.  they  suck,    (  she  was  practically  pouting,  head  lifting  to  look  at  her.  )      you  don’t  suck.  y’know  that  right?  you’re  like—  super  pretty,  and  funny,  and  amazing,  and  you  don’t  suck.
