To all who follow me or just happen to look at my profile, please watch When They See Us on Netflix. It’s about the famous Central Park 5 or newly renamed the Exonerated Five. Five teenage boys, 16 and younger were wrongly imprisoned for the rape and abuse of a woman who was jogging in Central Park, New York in 1989. These boys were mistreated from Day 1. They were abused by police officers, detectives, and many other high powers in the “justice system” physically, emotionally and mentally. This short 4 Part story isn’t for the faint hearted, you will experience emotions you never thought you could feel. Raymond, Yusef, Antron, Kevin and Korey had their innocence and youth ripped away because of ignorance, stereotyping and racism. Donal Trump even spent a large sum of money to take full paper ads stating that the 5 should get the death penalty. Korey Wise, in particular, was just 16 years old when he was sent straight to Riker’s Island while the other four were sent to Juvie. He experienced pain and trauma that I wouldn’t even wish on my worst enemy. Please watch this show because it sheds light and opens your eyes as to what is going on in today’s society even if these events took place years ago. Luckily, all 5 men are still alive today and are spending each day with care. Some have families and are living as normally as they can. The Exonerated Five will not be silenced but will be respected. Thank you.
