It's February 1st and the ONC prompts are out! I've been participating in every ONC since 2019, so this is normally one of my favourite days of the year.
However, this year I'm making the choice to sit it out. I'm in the final stages of getting my Master's degree, working three jobs, and hoping to move out as soon as an opportunity presents itself, so adding writing a novella under time pressure to that workload will be the death of me.
Therefore, I'll focus on writing the sequel to #FF offline at my leisure for now, but I will definitely be around to read and support some of the entries people come up with! Happy ONC, everyone!
@bigfivedonaldduckfan At the moment, I am more than happy to keep writing in Dutch. It means I'm (finally!) finishing stories and that is more important to me now than a potential bigger audience. Thank you for your encouragement!
@AnneVilssen I encourage you to try! You'd likely be able to potentially reach a bigger audience that way. I bet a smaller, more close-knit Dutch audience has its benefits too, though!
@bigfivedonaldduckfan It still is nice! Even though our version is not official anymore, the spirits are still up and that's a good thing. But you know, it always is a bit nicer when you're able to go along with the 'big ones'. Maybe I should consider writing in English one day...
Hi, how are you? I started one of your novels and it's really great, especially the covers of your books. Who makes them for you? I'm curious because I struggle a lot with that.

@_GoldBook_ Thank you! As for my covers, I usually make them myself! I'm not all that skilled with them, honestly, but I just use a combination of free apps to make them. Most I made using either Canva or Desygner (they have free book cover templates that can be edited) and free stock images I edit using Picsart. There are more sophisticated applications and pictures out there that allow for nicer covers, but the methods I use now don't cost me anything and are easy for me to understand, so that's what I do. I hope that's helpful to you!

Recommendation of the day!
Novella 'The Heartless Void' by @empiresofwater is a queer sci-fi retelling of classic novel Moby-Dick. Following Henry Starbuck, first mate on a deep-space ship, the story explores his (moral) tribulations as he gets pulled further and further into the mad obsession of Captain Ahab: hunting down a murderous ship of legend supposedly controlled by a rogue AI programme. Starbuck may want to return home to his husband and son, but is that even still possible?
This story will have you ponder both the horrors of space and of mankind! Which might suit Halloween more than the holiday season, but that doesn't make it any less of an intriguing short read worth checking out!
