I may not be black but I see you guys, I see your struggles, I listen to your voices. I’m here for you and with you. What this cop did is UNACCEPTABLE. BUT. I want you to know that not every cop is that way. Not every cop is a racist. Not every cop will disrespect you. Yes the system MUST be changed. 
          
          Black lives matter. 
          Latinos lives matter.  
          White lives matter. 
          
          ALL LIVES MATTER WITHOUT ANY EXCEPTION!!

            Some people still do not understand the phrase Black lives matter. It NEVER implies that only black lives that matter. BLM speaks out against the police brutality and systemic racism that caused the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and Breonna Taylor, as well as the thousands of violent incidents that happen to Black people that aren’t recorded, aren’t reported or aren’t afforded the outrage they deserve. 
            
            You might have a good sentiment when you said “All lives matter”. But here’s the thing, that phrase actually takes the focus away from those who need it. Saying "All Lives Matter" redirects the attention from Black lives, who are the ones in peril. 
            
            For some, the phrase may not resonate. So this analogy of a house fire may help.
            
            If your house is on fire and you call the fire department for help, how would you feel if all of your neighbors ran outside and shouted 'but my house matters, too! Spray water on my house! I'm just as important!'
            Your house is important. No one is saying it isn't.
            
            The problem is -- your house is not the one burning right now. It does not need the attention. But your neighbor’s house does. It is the one in flames.
            
            Right now, the black community needs the water to douse the flames.
            
            If it helps, think of the phrase as being Black Lives Matter, too. And until black lives are valued as much as white lives, that refrain will still ring true.
