“The thought of Hell frightens me.”
“Are you afraid of it?”
“Well, yes, I suppose—like everyone else.”
“You are fooled by what others say, and I am well aware of it,” she chuckled. “‘Thought,’ you say? Don’t you think life itself is a kind of hell?”
He cleared his throat. “I feel happiness sometimes. I am afraid you cannot feel pleasure in hell.”
“Maybe you are wrong. Maybe these pleasures are the punishment itself—tricks to make you believe life is worth living, only for it to suddenly take everything from you and slaughter you until the next punishment. Quite a sick cycle, isn’t it?”
