I came across your piece *Born to be soft, Forced to be tough* and I have been thinking about it since.
The line “They taught me how to tie shoelaces. Not how to untie grief at 2am.” stayed with me in a very real way. It feels so simple at first, but it opens something deeper the longer you sit with it. There is a quiet honesty in your writing that does not try too hard, and that is what makes it powerful.
I also noticed how you ended with “For everyone who learned to swallow.” That felt like a shared understanding, like you were speaking for many people who never quite find the words. It is rare to see something so soft carry that kind of weight.
At the same time, it feels like this kind of writing can easily be missed. Not because it lacks strength, but because it is gentle and does not demand attention. It deserves to be felt more widely.
